SHRM-LI – Letter From The President -March 2015

In #Executiveboard,Christel Colon,Human Resources,Long Island,President,SHRM,SHRMLI on March 11, 2015 by shrmli Tagged: , , , , , ,

Welcome to SHRM-Long Island 2015!  We hope you like our new website look and want to share even more news.

Our new Executive Board was inducted at our February meeting, by the Chairman of the Board of SHRM National, Brian Silva.
This was a momentous occasion and I am honored and humbled to be serving in the role of President of SHRM-Long Island.  I am privileged to be joined by Danielle Barry SPHR, SHRM-SCP (President-Elect), Lisa Dippel PHR (Treasurer) and Jennifer Pilate-Carey SPHR, SHRM-SCP (Secretary).  I speak for us all when I say, “Thank you for your confidence and trust.”

To those whom we succeed, I want to say thank you.  Thank you for all you have done to provide enormous shoes for us to fill and a bright horizon in our future.  Having watched you over the years drives home what a privilege and undertaking this is.

To our fellow Board Members and Linda I want to say thank you so very much for your partnership, enthusiasm, and energy!  Our synergy and dedication to SHRM-LI will surely take our organization to new heights and continue in the tradition of providing great value and service to our Members.

I am also looking forward to a closer working relationship with our sponsors and vendors.  Thank you for your continued support and partnership.

Lastly, but certainly not least, I’d like to thank our Members for placing your trust and support in me and this amazing team.

I have been fortunate in my life and in my career to have long, meaningful, and precious relationships. One of the longest, most meaningful and most prized is my relationship with SHRM-Long Island.

I consider myself enriched by it on every level of my existence.  Of course, my career has benefited from my affiliation with SHRM-LI, but the personal growth and the many great friends I have made along the way, have been the icing and the cherry on top!

I don’t align myself with an organization unless I can embody the mission and the vision of that organization.

That holds true for my employers and for my volunteer affiliations.  Since the early 90s, I have been a Member of this Chapter and a volunteer leader since about 2004.

I have held almost every leadership post – the whole while, thanking my lucky stars to be a part of this amazing organization.  I couldn’t have done it without the support and empowerment of an esteemed group that came before and the guidance and friendship of our secret weapon – Linda Selden-Paduano.

Speaking for the entire Executive Board, I hope you are as proud to be a Member of this organization as we are that you chose us as your leadership team and I look forward to continuing the practice of excellence and innovation that has defined this Chapter for many years to come.

So what excites me about the road ahead?  Everything!  Just before us lies our 24th Annual Conference – HR Renaissance – Educate. Empower. Thrive – on May 8th.  The theme is quite fitting as our profession has experienced a modern-day metamorphosis; especially over the course of my career.

To help the contemporary human capital professional prepare for our ever changing and highly demanding roles, SHRM National has launched two new certifications, SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP. But wait!  There’s more!

This past November, SHRM-LI was awarded not one, but two, Pinnacle Awards for the Workforce Readiness Committee VHR Program.  The Pinnacle Award is the Oscar of SHRM National, recognizing Chapter-level efforts that enhance the HR profession.

Our Chapter has so much to celebrate and we hope you will be a part of all that’s yet to come!
Thank you again.  I look forward to serving you with pride and pleasure.

The goal of the Professional Development committee is to offer more robust and comprehensive topics that appeal to our senior HR executives.
